| February 20, 1962-John Glen soars into orbit aboard Friendship 7 becoming the first American to orbit the earth.
In 1962 - four young musicians auditioned for Decca Records. The executive dismissed them saying, We don't like their sound. Groups of guitars are on their way out. The Beatles left without a contract. The citizens of Santa Paula, while contributing funds to equip the new hospital, also raised $7,000. to purchase the historical Moreton Bay fig tree as the corner of Santa Barbara and Tenth Streets, dedicating the new site to be used as a city park. The Cardinal Marching Band brought home a first-place trophy from the Ventura County Fair Parade. Cardinal musicians Paul McCurdy, Susie Marchant and Carolyn Strange were name to the All-Southern California Honor Band.
